My journey into training as a Clinical Hypnotherapist

Updated: Apr 29

If you’d asked me a few years ago whether I’d train as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I might have laughed and told you I was far too busy to even contemplate such a thing. But life has a way of shifting your focus, taking you down paths that you previously never considered.

Throughout my working life, I’ve been drawn to roles that felt meaningful and that allowed me to connect with people on a human level. I often found myself frustrated by work cultures that prioritised targets and outputs over care and connection. I began to realise how much energy it takes to keep bending myself out of shape to fit into work cultures that don't feel right. Eventually, I decided there had to be another way.

In 2021, I made a conscious decision to step away from the Civil Service and join a small social enterprise focused on the delivery of training and consultancy on attachment, trauma, and resilience. It was here that I really started to understand the science behind human behaviour - how our brains are wired for connection to others; and how experiences shape the way we think, feel and cope.

Alongside this professional learning, there were changes in my personal life. In early 2022, I lost my mum to kidney failure and just weeks later, my daughter was diagnosed with an eating disorder. Supporting loved ones through life-threatening illnesses taught me more than any textbook ever could about resilience, fear, hope, and the need for deep compassion - both for others, and myself.

These experiences, and a growing curiosity about the mind, led me to Clinical Hypnotherapy. It wasn’t an impulsive decision. I took time to really experience the training and to be sure that it felt right.

Training as a Clinical Hypnotherapist has been transformative. It’s allowed me to grow into myself more fully. I’ve learned about the incredible power of the subconscious mind, the importance of small steps to change, and how healing happens not through big dramatic moments, but through everyday shifts in mindset and behaviour and trusting relationships; including the one that you have with your therapist.

I bring all of that learning and life experience into my work at Saffron Hypnotherapy.

I am particularly committed to working with adults and young people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress and phobias. I know firsthand, having experienced early menopause for example, how quickly confidence can be shaken. I started experiencing anxiety about everyday things like driving my car; and whereas I had moved through life with relative ease previously, suddenly everything tipped me over the edge. I understand the loneliness that can come with feeling vulnerable, and the difference it can make to have someone walk alongside you, helping you to make sense of what you are going through.

At Saffron Hypnotherapy, my approach is simple: real connection, real care, and work that honours the unique journey you’re on. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, a period of change, or simply wanting to reconnect with a stronger sense of yourself, you’ll find a calm, compassionate space here.

I believe that growth doesn’t come from pushing harder, but from staying connected to yourself, to what really matters, and to the possibilities that can unfold when you feel supported and safe.

If you're curious about how hypnotherapy might help you, you're warmly welcome to get in touch.
